Ingredients
Scale
For the Sauce and Meat
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 onion (finely chopped)
- 1 lb ground beef (lean preferred)
- 24 oz tomato passata (for a thick sauce)
- 3 cups beef broth (or stock cubes + water)
- 2 tsp Italian mixed herbs (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 tsp chili flakes (adjust to preference)
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 3/4 tsp salt (to taste)
- 3/4 tsp pepper (fresh ground)
Pasta
- 12 oz spaghetti (uncooked)
Instructions
- Heat oil and aromatics: Heat the olive oil over medium-high in a large pot. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, cooking for about 2 minutes until fragrant and the onion is translucent.
- Brown the beef: Add the ground beef to the pot, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the meat is browned and no longer pink.
- Add tomato passata: Stir in the tomato passata, ensuring it’s evenly mixed with the beef.
- Incorporate remaining broth from bottle: Pour a bit of beef broth into the empty tomato passata bottle, shake, and pour it into the pot to capture all the flavors.
- Add remaining liquids and seasonings: Pour in the remaining beef broth along with Italian mixed herbs, chili flakes, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Stir well until fully combined.
- Add the spaghetti: Add the uncooked spaghetti to the pot, fanning it out around the sauce. Let it soften in the liquid for about 30 seconds, then gently push it under the sauce to submerge.
- Cook the pasta: Bring the pot to a gentle boil and cook for 12 minutes, stirring every minute to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
- Toss pasta in sauce: Once the pasta is just al dente, remove from heat. Toss the pasta gently in the sauce for about 30 seconds to meld flavors.
- Serve: Dish up your One Pot Pasta Bolognese immediately, garnishing each serving with freshly grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content.
- Adjust chili flakes according to your preferred spice level.
- Make sure to stir frequently during cooking to prevent pasta from sticking to the bottom.
- Fresh Parmesan adds a nice finishing touch, but it can be omitted for a lighter dish.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stove or microwave.
